The business case for building a diverse and inclusive workforce grows more compelling every year.
Successive studies reach the same conclusion: when women, people of color and other historically marginalized groups get a seat at the table, organizations perform better. An analysis by McKinsey of 1,000 large companies in 15 countries found that gender, ethnic, and cultural
diversity on executive teams correlated strongly with profitability.
In an increasingly interconnected world, a diverse talent pool offers the breadth of perspectives that drives innovation, improves decision-making and enhances reputations. The key is an inclusive approach where all employees feel valued and noticed whatever their identity.
However, eliminating unconscious bias and creating a fair and equitable workplace where everyone feels valued is easier said than done.
McKinsey’s research suggests that while some companies have made impressive progress, a great many are stalling or even slipping backwards.
However, investors are increasingly using diversity and inclusion data in corporate Environment Social Governance (ESG) reports to inform their decisions, providing a clear incentive for companies to show leadership in this area.
